Passengers must have a negative COVID-19 test result. Tests accepted are LAMP, NEAR, Next Generation Sequence, quantitative antigen (CLEIA), RT-PCR, Smart Amp, TMA or TRC. The test must:
- specify that it is based on nasopharyngeal swab or saliva; and
- be taken at most 72 hours before departure from the first international embarkation point; and

- This does not apply to passengers with a visa issued by Japan outside Japan. The date of issue must be later than the date when the country of issue was designated by Japan as an area subject to landing denial (details can be found at http://www.moj.go.jp/content/001332786.pdf ). They must have a printed medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result. The certificate must be in English and the test must have been taken at most 72 hours before departure and the sample collection method must be 'nasopharyngeal swab' or 'saliva'.
- This does not apply to passengers with a single or multiple-entry visa issued on or before 2 April 2020 by Japanese Embassies or Consulates General in Australia, New Zealand and Taipei Kaohsiung offices of Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association.
